The Go! Team – Thunder, Lightning, Strike

I feel bad for missing out on it on release. It's only because of MTV 's recent rediscovered interest in playing actual music and their excellent ALTERNATIVE NATION and PARTYZONE time slots, that I heard of The Go! Team.

But hey, 20 years later this one still holds up. A perfect mix of Big Beat and Alternative Rock. Something to crank up to full volume and have a great time! An incredible feel good album that works on the living room as well as during a long car ride! Love it!

I just got this as a present yesterday and it sounds amazing. I'll listen again, but both "Huddle Formation" and "Everyone's a V.I.P to Someone" are defintely different versions. VIP has different lyrics and a different structures, it's totally wild. I have nice friends who get me good presents. ;)

Any idea if the version of Everyone's A VIP To Someone is the original UK version on this?

Just gave my copy a listen. The red and yellow splatter vinyl looks really cool, I like it a lot. As someone else here mentioned, it seems to be a mix of the 2005 version with "We Just Won't Be Defeated" and "Hold Yr Terror Close," but "Bottle Rocket" and "Huddle Formation" are the 2004 versions. Nice surprise there, especially the Black Panthers chant at the end of "Huddle Formation." I wasn't expecting the original versions of those. I'll have to give another listen and see which ones are the 2004 vs. 2005 versions -- Junior Kickstart sounded like the 2005 version to me.

The record sounds pretty great - The Go! Team has a very particular sound to them and this pressing captures it really well. It's noisy where it's supposed to be but still balanced and with the right feel to it. I don't have a great record player or speaker setup (just a cheap victrola with a tiny built-in speaker) but I think this is one of the cleanest-sounding records I've played on it.

Any comments on how this 2024 reissue sounds ? ?

Note that the CD was missing from the initial shipments and are being sent separately, if like me you were left confused as to its absence.

worth noting that the 20th anniversary edition (and maybe some of the more recent LP versions?) seems to be a 'mk. 3' – the extended tracklisting of the 'clean' re-release, but at least some of the versions from the original (e.g. "huddle formation" has the skateboard lyrics).

Does anyone know how many duifferent versions (not pressings) there are of this? I have the original UK pressing - was there a version with samples removed and is that one the current version or do they have clearance now? Were there any other versions that are different to the original? TIA

Sounds surprisingly good. Some surface noise but the mastering is pretty spot on. I think some songs might also have a different mix to what is available on Spotify. Vocals and drums often sound different to what I'm used to online.

Hum, it’s ok but a bit flat needs to be more dynamic. Still a nice record to have but lacks a bit of punch.
