I think this was only released on the promo versions due to sample clearance, of the rap from Hi Tek 3 "Spin That Wheel", which is a shame as its a great track, with its big tough beats, dirty funky bass groove, sirens & the rap weaved in and out "Yo DJ, The Hip In The House So Turn It Up". -

Frank De Wulf was one of my favourite producers back in the early 90's and he doesn't disappoint with this 12".
Its worth listening to all the tracks on here, but its Cubes that's the stand out track and became a big track back in 90. Driving beats topped with a simplistic, infectious driving synth riff with acid elements weaving in and out of the track. This is one of my all time favourite tracks which I never tire of. This track still sounds great today too.
Its worth having a listen to all the B-Sides series and or Frank De Wulf releases if you enjoy this 12". -

Cubes is a 4-star Rave tune. It also marks the transformation from New Beat to (Techno) Rave back in 1990. -

For me the track to buy this EP for has to be Square Root 5. By far the most envigorating rave-based tune of this quartet. -

Cubes, was a hit at the time.
The main stab is a sample of Revelation "First Power", played efficiently.
Quality Belgian techno with an acid zest.
"Eliminator" is also noticeable with this synth line throughout the track.
But the interrest here is in "Hip In The House", which is more euro house oriented. It has been removed from the "Unit 1" release due to a copyright problem with the Hi Tek 3's "Spin That Wheel" vocal sample ("Hi Tek 3 know what's up, They' re hipping the house so turn it up").
Frank De Wulf said in a discogs forum that without this sample the track lost interest. It has been replaced afterward by "Tension Dream".
As "Tension Dream" is also a very good track, you need both editions to have the complete "Unit 1" work.

Contains what is propably one of Frank De Wulf's best known Rave tracks: 'Cubes' which was remixed by him for the second Modular Expansion release 'Unit II'
The original version is the best.
