1987 saw how Bruce Springsteen's marriage with Julianne Phillips was tearing apart while he was falling in love with Patti Scialfa.
Going through this dark times of doubt and guilt, Springsteen wrote and recorded, almost on his own (in 'Nebraska's vein) 'Tunnel Of Love', an album that can be regarded as the Boss' look upon the dark side of love and marriage.
What happens when votes and promises break, and the absolute cold that your soul feels when you realize that you don't know the person you share your life with.
For some, it's one of Springsteen's weakest efforts, mainly due to the presence of synthetizers and drumming machines instead of real musicians in several songs, though it was the sign of times around the second part of the eighties.
Even so, the album included some really good songs, as 'Tougher Than The Rest' or this 'Brilliant Disguise', that remain among my favourite songs out of Springsteen's catalogue.

Fabulous sounding Pressing. Vibrant, dynamic and quiet vinyl and generally a steal for an album and pressing this good

I Get recently this album in second hand and washed it with my Humminguru.

Mastering by Bob Ludwig, pressing méthod : Direct Metal Mastering (DMM engraved inscription in the dead wax)...This LP should, a priori, sound great…

And yes it does baby , Silent, Quiet clear With présence of all musiciens around Bruce.

Album should've had a cover of Dr Hook's When You're In Love With A Beautiful Woman.

My second favorite Bruce record. Definitely the end of one his eras but we are blessed to many to part of! My pressing is good with a little inner groove distortion but glad to have it on vinyl. Highly recommended!

I can never choose between this album and Nebraska as my favorite Bruce Albums. I love Darkness too. But this is his most pop-radio friendly album, which at the end of the day I'm a sucker for. The first three tracks on this album bring me so much joy.

As much as I love Nebraska, this album has my heart as my favorite Springsteen…it is very much overlooked in his discography, and it’s a damn shame. I was lucky enough to snag a pristine first pressing from my dad’s record collection, so I get to enjoy this album in all of it’s late 80s perfection, and truly sounds better than any other album in my collection from the same time period…if you haven’t listened to this one, and are fans of Bruce’s other work, please give it a shot, you won’t regret it!
