Warren G – Regulate... G Funk Era

I hunted for this album in the wild for a month or so and finally found it.

I rushed home to spin the record and was immediately turned off by it.

I wouldn’t say it’s unplayable but if you enjoy high quality music on vinyl the Def Jam 40th anniversary pressing is complete trash and NOT it.

Do not recommend this pressing.

Great album and release. But the remixes, to parrot what everybody else has said, are terrible. Seems like a way to charge more for the record. Regardless, this album is a banger and sounds fantastic.

The album is a banger, the bonus disc not so much, but it is a nice bonus I reckon.

So I recently came across this reissue of the highly acclaimed and influential album, the original G-Funk piece, the father record, so to speak. Well ... think what you want. At least I feel it broke all boundaries for the big market. Mark me wrong. I don't own the first pressing, as I really had no desire to add it at the time, even though I recognized qualities and potential. I think by purchasing it and putting it on, it was the first time I heard it as a whole. Warren G isn't my greatest friend, but that's another story. The album starts, and I cringe ... “Regulate” is such a dead horse for me! It's a nifty song, but they played it to the max in ´94, so I immediately see the video and the sweet-sour face of the showcasing artist. However, it gets better and less shady, I would call it solid Long Beach chill stuff. The other hit here is “This D.J.”, I personally prefer it to the aforementioned Nate Dogg-collab. Also great are “This Is The Shack” with Dove Shack, from their own album and the sort of mold-breaking "Runnin' Wit No Breaks" with a sample, which the Dream Warriors most prominently used for their "California Dreamin´". Overall, a nice record that doesn't rock my world like others do, but certainly has a place in history and exudes a pretty tight atmosphere. The pressing does a good job in of bass and dynamics, most of the pieces from this era and sphere had been nicely mixed anyway, thanks to clever engineering and skillful controller work. So it would have been quite an art in itself to fuck it up.

The pressing is OK. The remixes vinyl is disposable. I don't understand this waste of plastic. If you love the album, you are not looking for aimless drum and bass remixes. It would have been better to provide some instrumentals or a capellas. Or just the original LP. Anyway, a classic album for a fair price. I'm in.

Shame the original album wasn’t pressed over 2 vinyl rather than press the remixes on a separate vinyl (if at all), strange move from def jam!

Constantly noisy vinyl, pressed off centre with low cut volume.

So inferior to my OG CD its rendered pointless.

You'd have to be a moron to pay money for this. As mine is so noisy and poor for the money its going back from whence it came. Even at half the rrp it still would. GZ media still havent learned how to press quiet records and i wonder why i bother!

This pressing is quite silent, pity for such an album where you really want to crank it up and feel the rumbling bass.

Affordable re-issue, remixes are weak, some surface noise.
Not on par with The Twinz re-issue which is killer and in the same vibe.

They're serious about reissuing this album with the crappy remixes!!!!

I don't know if the guy called himself destructo on purpose, but he destroyed the tracks!

I'd much rather buy a bootleg with the original tracks from the album than this horrible version
