In a word -- brilliant! This is an incredible sounding record. The pressing is very quiet. The audio fidelity is dynamic, open, lush and natural. The instruments and vocals are detailed delivering tremendous clarity in the highs and mids while the bass is rich and fat. And of course, the music speaks for itself. Highly recommended!

I picked this up from Walmart for a friend. But when I told her I got the Walmart red record, she asked me to open it, listen to it before mailing it because of the reviews here.

I'm not really having the sound issues with this pressing like some people are having because this sounds great. I guess only some copies are affected.

This sounds fantastic and so does the standard black vinyl re-issue. I think I'll keep this and give my friend the standard black vinyl.

Awful, based on the issue others have reported on Fast Car. Cleaning the record doesn't help. I've got the red version, which was bought for me as a gift, and my local record store avoids black vinyl if there's the option of colour vinyl (I wouldn't call it a serious record store). It's a shame, as Tracy Chapman sounded really proud of this reissue, but someone has let her down.

Not as warm or as punchy as the original still enjoyable however. No poly inner sleeve???

Having the regular 2025 black version already, I picked this up for the heck of it. They both sound great, but there’s just something about the 1988 Specialty Pressing that sounds better. The 1988 plays with hiss, much better low-end and sounds more raw than the 2025 reissues. The 2025 reissue sounds much more sterile and clean which isn’t always a good thing in comparison. Hard to explain, but if you’re satisfied with your 2025 reissue purchase, then by all means enjoy it. If you want to go down the rabbit hole, pick up an original, specifically the SP pressing.

Just picked up a copy at my friendly neighborhood Walmart and there's not so much as a "tick" between songs. It's obvious a lot of care was taken in this release. It sounds fantastic.

Maybe I am in minority, compare to my mint 1st Canadian copy, this one is slightly less open and slightly more noisier (ticks and pops here and there) but vocal is bit darker and more meaty, OG copy is bit brighter and thinner sounding.

My copy is sweet as pineapple. I’ve wanted this album in my collection for some time. Every track is perfectly placed on the album. It’s one of those ‘listen to the whole album’ types of records. I love blood red colour too. I splashed out to purchase it from JB HiFi in Kirikiriroa Hamilton, Aotearoa New Zealand, but I’m glad I did. I got it for 20% so it worked out a little cheaper than usual. Happy with my purchase. Tracy is phenomenal.
