Suede – Suede

I must it I don’t like it. The drums are gone, apart from the kick which is overpowering. The bass guitar is now central. The guitar is gone too. The sound is all top and bottom. The vocals are nicely prominent but sit on top of a lifeless mix. It’s remarkably bad. If you have an EQ you could potentially boost the mids and it might be okay, but it really is bad. I thought that as a suede fan you just have to buy it out of fan service, but in this case you really don’t. Very strange.

Its THE most beautiful looking gold vinyl disc ive ever seen but i would recmmend the newer Half Speed or 2018 deluxe vinyl as the better listens. This one is listenable enough and about quiet enough but inferior. The problem is expectations..... Suedes debut and in fact subsequent albums some EXTREMELY compressed recordings ala much of the 90's indie music. Somehow Suedes sound isnt detrimented as much as a 4 piece jazz group would be via this recording manner so with that in mind you should mainly hope for quiet playback of Suede pressings rather than expecting a big, full, dynamic sounding remaster thats totally at odds with the way the band recorded thier stuff!

The Demon/GZ Media Suede pressings seemingly can be awful quality but in my case, with this 2018 two disc edition of the debut im delighted to have a copy thats got two flat, defect free and quiet playing discs. Theres alot of good Suede outside their albums so the bonus disc truly is a bonus. As for sound quality, well what Suede really needs is a remix. The original material is badly produced and has never sounded great but whats on these two discs sounds acceptable enough. This aint no audioshow demo room fluff after all!

Bought this 30th anniversary by mistake. Thought i pre ordered 2 30th dog man star.
Seeing i have the UK 1st nude version i will compare. But 1st a wet clean and vacuum of the new lp. It makes so much difference. I won’t play non-cleaned/vacuum lps straight outta the opening of.
P.s weird, the barcode is in the right lower corner and isn’t recognized by discogs QR/barcode reader and the band name on front is The London Suede. Anyone got an idea what’s going on?

Not too impressed with the quality of the pressing to be honest. Could be more crispy and punchy. Also on some tracks I hear sibilance, and my needle is in excellent condition. Amazing album and happy to have it.

I have not heard an OG pressing, but this one sounds muffled, like the high end has been sucked out of the mix. Again, not sure if that's just how it was recorded, maybe someone can shed some light on this for me.

Unlike the others, I don't find it to be too bright or treble heavy. Sounds clean and even to me. I think a lot of people revisiting older music forget that it's not as bass heavy as newer stuff. To me it sounds like the cd version.

No noise on my copy, but I find it to be very bass-heavy.

Sounded ok in of mastering, but sent back owing to the shear number of pops and clicks on the record. As soon as the music gets quiet it's very noticeable, way beyond the usual. Not acceptable on a new copy.
