Metatec was primarily a CD-ROM manufacturer, formed out of the reorganisation of CD-ROM manufacturer Discovery Systems which had declared bankruptcy in 1988 and in 1989 was renamed Metatec, Inc. Metatec became a major manufacturer of CD-ROMs at its primary facility in Dublin, OH, USA. Some audio CD production continued into the 1990s, mainly for syndicated programs within the U.S. radio industry. These CDs tend to be within the database as "partially unofficial", but the manufacturer is not a bootlegger.
In 1998 the company acquired the CD-ROM Services business of Imation Corporation (see Medius Corporation.
In May 2003, the facility in Breda was sold to Inoveris.
DUBLIN, OH
The Dublin, OH manufacturing plant can be identified and credited based on the combination of a matrix number in the format L######## and mould SID code IFPI 9B**. Metatec is rarely also named in the matrix but is not required in order to credit this profile. Please use the Pressed By role. Examples of the L######## matrix number include T025Y02XF.
BREDA, NETHERLANDS
The Breda, Netherlands manufacturing plant can be identified and credited based on a combination of a sequential 'B' number, which was initiated by Metatec, in the format B##### or (the later) B###### (+ an appended letter in both cases). This 'B' number was adapted from the 'NA' number previously used by Imation, Breda.
Mastering SID code IFPI LF31 / LF32 (Inherited from Imation, Breda).
A separate six-digit number, representing the date (YYMMDD) in is also commonly present.
'METATEC' rarely appears in the matrix. but is not required to credit this profile.
Please note however that care needs to be taken in crediting as Mediamotion assumed ownership of the plant in May 2003 and continued to use these SID codes and the sequential 'B' number. The separate 6-digit date number can also be of assistance in determining the correct profile.
