The first record I ever bought with my own money was Grand Funk* - We're An American Band on gold wax with a sheet of stickers inside. I had no idea it was colored vinyl when I bought it and thought it was the coolest thing ever. I had the stickers on my school notebooks and one on my wallet. I was immediately hooked. Fripp and Eno - No Pussyfooting.
When I saw the cover as a teen and decided I would start buying vinyl once in awhile. I decided to list it for the small profit so it could be enjoyed by the next person. On the same day I bought Islands by KC. I actually played that a lot more. No Pussyfooting was just too weird to play in my parent's house. However because KC has horns and strings, I felt more comfortable playing it. I still have Islands. Nasty copy too. -

The first record I ever consciously listened to was The White Album at the age of three or four....it still remains my all time favorite album by my all-time favorite band, and even though there are Beatles albums I find more experimentally substantial, there's personal reasons why The White Album brings me back. When I actually bought a turntable in high school, I was obsessed with 70s progressive rock in 2006, so my first albums were In The Court Of The Crimson King, Close To The Edge, everything in Pink Floyd's discography, Thick As A Brick, and Brain Salad Surgery. -

Interesting question!
I think I can divide this question in three categories given to the answers above:
1 - This is one of my oldest memories. I was three years old and I was walking on a street with my mother when I heard the song played on a record shop and then I insisted I wanted it (it was near my birthday) and she bought it for me: a 78 rpm copy of "Cry Me A River" by Julie London;
2 - I personally bought from saving my allowance in 1962: an EP by the Beatles featuring "Anna", and
3 - This one I worked for it and it was an EP by Johnny Rivers featuring the song "Do You Wanna Dance?", in 1968.
I still have all the three of them. -
