mattsalcido ... I thought I would ask in case there is a way to do this.
I'm really not a fan of the way Discogs has release dates used in my collection. I want to be able to show that, for example, Burn by Deep Purple was an album from 1974, not the year that my particular remaster happens to be released. I know why Discogs does this, if someone has multiple variants of the same album but I've been trying to work around this.
I tried setting up folders per year where I could drop Burn into 1974, but I can't sort by folder on the collection screen so can't get a full chronological listing this way. Also looked at notes and custom fields, and I have the same problem.
Any ideas would be most welcome. -

Hey nwpsys Yeah I don't think this is possible currently. I tried to modify the sorting URL to in "folder" as a sort parameter but that didn't work so no luck there. The extension can't really help here because it would first need to capture the entire collection before any sorting could be done and that would be pretty slow. And the larger the collection, the slower it would be. In fact, it's possible that it would not work at all with large collections due to the amount of data involved.
I'm not sure there's anything I can do to help but let me mull it over and see if I come up with anything. -

Thanks for giving it some thought, Matt but please don't spend too much time ! -

Not being able to do standard 0-9/A-Z sorting on the custom fields I've created is one of the most annoying things. -

Yeah agreed. I don't think this was possible with the OG collection either though :/ -

When I want to sort my custom fields I use https://ogger.club/ - not necessarily the most convenient depending on what you're doing (i.e. no prices/marketplace integration), but it's the best alternative I've found. -

cosmic-colors Mate, this is brilliant. It allows me to build a collection view using the Original Year which is exactly what I needed. Thanks so much. The only thing I need to work out is how the covers view using date ascending or descending actually uses the date as it all seems pretty random at the moment !
