Hi everyone,
Could you recommend me some great experimental tracks (or album provided that the whole thing is worth it). But first, I'll try to explain what I'm after:
Things that wander into unexpected musical territories, not immediately identifable as relating to specific genres/musical scenes (thus avoiding things that could immediately be identified as ambient, idm, techno, jazz, etc...)
Here are a few exemples of tracks which, when I first heard those, I appreciated precisely because they were feeling like "out of category" (and yet having a distinct personality):
Les marquises - chasing the hunter
https://youtu.be/x5Zb74kyZSY?feature=shared
Nurse with wound - The bottom feeder
https://youtu.be/NbfxNoYxMhI?feature=shared
Moebius - Markt
https://youtu.be/KnwKe6g36oo?feature=shared
Of course, I'm certainly not asking for music that would sound similar to any of the above: I'm only sharing these tracks to better illustrate what I meant by "out of category". You know, those tracks that make you think "wow this is brilliant" while you have absolutely no idea what to call such music, besides "experimental".
By the way, it would be nice to have some 21th century music recommendations too (rather than just famous avant-guarde artists from the last century).
Thanks! -

The title track from My Home, Sinking - King of Corns may fit the bill. Check it out - it's still available on Bandcamp. Some other tracks fall into modern classical and folk, but this one is hard to classify. -

Hello, I've enjoyed the music of Richard Skelton for some time now. Two of his recent projects maintain his usual high standard of topographical drone (but wait, there's more) pieces to immerse yourself in. I hope you enjoy them -

drone to immerse yourself in
This is quite good, but you can immediately recognize the musical genre as ambient/drone (which are certainly very experimental fields, of course).
Here's some rather unusual abstract stuff I just found today which I thought you might appreciate:
Doomlode – The Nuclear Laundry (2022)
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_mNli_bcyOrR2qxrfc6i8Euj9rnE60MJrc&playnext=1&index=1
It's a curious soundscape album, on the theme nuclear waste disposal. Sometimes a bit too easy with repetition, but still with its own well defined personality if you look at it as a whole.
As a side note, a goldmine of totally out there forms of music I'd recommend digging is the underground scenes of the late 70's and first half of 80's. Especially what was (often inconsiderately) later thrown into categories such as minimal and industrial, while actually often drifting far away from anything that could be categorized at the time. Lots of very artisanal stuff and refreshing recklessness there. -

Cheers, I'll check this out.
In regard of 70's/80's oddities, you shall find an overview of the most electronic oriented releases within my playlist titled "Paleotronics" (starting from number 250 for the most experimental stuff). However, this is a very oriented playlist, there is so much more to that time period that it's really worth digging (tape labels especially). -

Rather than out of category, I'd suggest my latest work straddles a few "categories" (maybe "out" in being plural?) ... I recognized this post-facto when trying to figure out which bin this goes into. I'll call out influences from ambient, dub techno (in the chords?) and amapiano ... →
Ruoho Ruotsi - Miðpunkts Útgáfurnar
https://ruohorecords.bandcamp.com/album/mi-punkts-tg-furnar
1. Torfbær Version 11:15
2. Ama Ucluelet Version 16:06
3. Purpurea Version 20:01
4. The Friend Hotel Version 10:30
BTW, also very much enjoying the Richard Skelton recommendation by 7Perry7! -
