spinn-off from the 5 year running BaoI thread...

Perhaps, though, maybe we can come up with some basic light grouping preferences, such as, adding static BaOI items on top (barcode, price code, and other non-varying info) so that variants can be added without needing to move those entries around.
Thoughts?
the "thoughts" developed to the suggestion to insert a gap between "static BaOI items on top" and the Matrix/Runout and it's variants. something like:
Barcode
Label Code
Price Code
Distribution Code
SPARS Code
Rights Society
Other
Depósito Legal
Pressing Plant ID
ISRC
ASIN
etc.
[====GAP====]
Matrix / Runout
Mastering SID Code
Mould SID Code
i'm sure to insert a tiny gap is not a complicate project, rather a piece of cake or a 5 minutes finger exercise for beginners - this tiny action with huge benefit
as far as i can see in the BaoI thread the proposal to split in two sections is already ed by all participants
what is the benefit of the gap?
look here a harmless one:

Missed this thread.
I'd like to see a divide such as artwork identifiers has one section, and matrix/runout identifiers has one section.
Which is essentially the current suggestion if I am understanding it correctly.
In addition such a section opens up new ways to display such data, so, if we're also going to discuss possible design, I would like to propose the suggestion here: https://www.discogs.sie.com/forum/thread/392356?page=8#7627601 -

What would the distinction be for what goes in each section (before and after the gap)? Some usages of Matrix would not allow for variation and would need to be in the top section. I’m thinking of catalog numbers displayed on labels or things like that. I feel this is somewhat unnecessary. The example you linked wouldn’t be solved if you split the “fixed” vs “variable” information. An inexperienced could still add data to the wrong place and in the wrong order.
Visually I would agree that some separation or groupings would be helpful, but to me that’s merely cosmetic. -

I agree. A vote on gap from here.

Other BaOI to be at the top:-
Example:-
Barcode:
...
Other:
Variants are to be added to the bottom of the BaOI.
Example:-
Matrix / Runout (Variant 1):
Mastering SID Code (Variant 1):
Mould SID Code (Variant 1):
...
... (Variant 3):

... I ed (and still ):
...
(2) the split of BaOI in two separate sections, one for the fixed data, one for the variable data.
there are many more but recap that thread is a painfully impossible...
(i hope the ones i meant can follow the crumb trail to arrive here too)

fair point! i assume you mean [Matrix/Runout (Side A, label): #######] why it should not allow to remain in the top section? -

If that is possible it would be great that the database solves the problem itself. So you add the info and then the database will provide the correct layout. So merge the data in the system when needed. But is that possible programmwise?
But [====GAP====] YES PLEASE -

I would a divide. But, at least an indention where the tags, or even credit roles stand out. That would be a vast improvement in the overall appearance and make it extremely easier to read. It's always bugged me. Professional sites just don't look like that. -

As addition :
So for me if is possible should be that there is a possibility to select (as in format) your Matrix, your Mastering SID code and add your mould SID Code . Due to this the system will do the above :) -

Exactly those situations. Maybe I’m not understanding your proposal, but it sounds like the “Matrix/Runout” would be in the bottom section and not in the top? Or would it be present in both places, or a new field for other codes like label cat#’s?
As an aside, I’ve always felt weird using “Matrix/Runout” for label catalog numbers. It’s neither a matrix or a runout, but maybe I’m unaware of something pertinant to that standard. -

They're Label Matrix, and should be separate tags...Label Matrix and Runout

The display of variants should really be organized in a way that only combinations of matrix runout and mastering SID code count as a variant and mould SID codes are merely listed in a list under each variant:
Matrix Runout (Variant 1):
Mastering SID code (Variant 1):
Mould SID Codes (Variant 1): [a], [b], [c], ...
Matrix Runout (Variant 2):
Mastering SID code (Variant 2):
Mould SID Codes (Variant 2): [d], [e], [f], ... -

i think page 4 of the Baoi-Order thread was a shiny blink to solve some repeating issues but already after a few posts/days it's faded to oblivion...

i think the dropdown order is the source of most issues
At the moment I'm not really too super into forcing a strict order for all items in the BaOI list otherwise. I don't want that to turn into yet another thing that new s need to memorize that they can get dinged for.
Perhaps, though, maybe we can come up with some basic light grouping preferences, such as, adding static BaOI items on top (barcode, price code, and other non-varying info) so that variants can be added without needing to move those entries around.

one year later we still have shuffles from:
Barcode
Label Code
Price Code
Rights Society
Matrix / Runout
Mastering SID Code
Mould SID Code
to:
Barcode
Label Code
Matrix / Runout
Mastering SID Code
Mould SID Code
Matrix / Runout
Mastering SID Code
Mould SID Code
Price Code
Rights Society
...
and it seems that some s explicit advise new s to do so... (WTF?)
i only can repeat: THE ORDER OF THE DROPDOWN IS A PROBLEM
https://www.discogs.sie.com/forum/thread/392356?page=7#7610009
and without a GAP between the static Baoi and the Matrix/Variants we have a Rat Race... -

Not sure if that is a good idea. It may work well if there is very little "variants", like 3 or 5, but there are releases with 15, 20 or even more variants, just to list them wold take a while screen to scroll (or even more, for monitors with resolution lower that 1680x1024 or similar), just look:

I think releases with tons of variants is exactly why we need something like this. Space is free, so it’s fine if it takes up space if it’s better used space. -

Perhaps but we have to think of what this data will look like in 50 years from now and how it will be easiest to read. A lot of releases will have more than 5 variants. Maybe the variants can be placed side by side to conserve space. Maybe they will be hidden and selected by clicking a tab.
F4 to search the page is handy.
