I have generalised the title but ...
In early April, I sent a cassette to a buyer in by International Tracked mail. The tracking stopped about a week later and I fear it is now lost.
So I started in a claim via the Royal Mail website for its loss. When I had completed everything they asked and I click the "submit" button, it instantly came back with
As the contents of your item are prohibited to the destination country, we may not be able to consider your claim for compensation.

Since when were music cassettes banned in ?
Maybe it comes under: Counterfeit goods, in breach of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)?
https://parcel.dhl.co.uk/what-you-can-and-cant-send/
Maybe the customs people think the cassette is a 'home made' copy of a release such as an album, or another tape?
Apart from that, I cannot see any other reason for them to flag it up as 'prohibited', unless it comes under some other category? -

Phone Royal Mail. Probably a bug (one of many) in their website systems. -

As you mention this it could be to do with GPSR, especially as they refer to "contents".
Would be interesting to see what it says on the release page and label pages (and if it was listed before December 13th). Technically this should only apply to business sellers I think? But it might still be rejected by customs.

I have a online ticket raised with Royal Mail about it so I will see what they say.
If there are new fields to be completed due to GPSR then they really need to have them on the postage label creation pages. -

You might not want to say what the release is but can you link the manufacturer? Had you listed it before December 13th 2024? Did you copy and paste the HS code correctly?
Of course we're only guessing here but it would be interesting to see if or how they are applying the new GPSR. -

I have no issues says what release it was. This one Black (2) - Comedy and was listed here long before 2024.

To be clear about the HS Code; on the Royal Mail system, you type in the product description and it gives you the code to use. Copy & pasting it is not an option.
And, I have no idea if their customs have rejected it or not. I just know that Royal Mail refuse to entertain a claim for "loss" because the HS code they gave me is for a product banned in that country; or so that message implies. -

So what was the HS code? -

That can't be the issue. Does the tracking show that it got out of customs? -

Tuesday 15 April 2025 12:26 Item received at Sorting Office BZ 23,
but that is still not the point. Royal Mail automatically refused to consider any compensation because they say the contents are banned.
By definition, all Music Cassettes sold in the UK are banned in (which I am fairly sure is not the case).
I suspect Royal Mail are squirming out of paying up for anything now.
