Seller
Veteran of decades in the vintage record market, brick and mortar store and former eBay seller with 100% satisfaction rating. Grading is always cosmetic, but satisfaction with sound is guaranteed.
We accept PAYPAL, VISA, AMEX, or MASTER CARD, checks, money orders or cash (not recommended).
1. DOMESTIC ORDERS: media mail is $4.75 for any sized order without limit fully insured. Domestic priority mail is possible, but expensive, inconvenient and discouraged.
2. INTERNATIONAL ORDERS are quoted by weight approximately at cost for both uninsured first class (for example, one LP to Europe is $19, to Asia is $19 - $24), and likewise for insured first class, which is usually only about $5 more than the uninsured rate. Many international buyers prefer to have their shipments with a low declaration value, as this saves them VAT fees and customs delays. But this raises some problems due to PayPal's 'Buyer Protection' policy. As a result, our policy for declaration and insurance is as follows:
-----2a. INTERNATIONAL INSURED: If you choose 'insured' (which is usually only $5 more than uninsured), and you wish to pay by PayPal, you may do so through the PayPal invoice that is displayed with the sale on Discogs. For buyers requesting insurance, we always provide such insurance, but reserve the right to either purchase commercial USPS insurance (as we usually do) or self-insure (as we occasionally do) at our discretion. (Insurance has value, regardless of who is providing it.)
-----2b. INTERNATIONAL UNINSURED: If you choose 'uninsured' for shipments over $90 total including shipping (or for Italy, Spain, Asia [excluding Japan], Israel, South America and Mexico, for shipments over $55 including shipping), you may pay by PayPal, but not through the invoice. (Unfortunately, Discogs does not offer a means for sellers to notify customers of this fact - other than here under 'seller ' - before allowing 'International uninsured' as an invoice option. Therefore, unfortunately...
**PAYMENTS FOR HIGH VALUE (SEE ABOVE) ORDERS REQUESTING LOW DECLARATION OR NO-INSURANCE CAN BE ACCOMMODATED, BUT IF THE INITIAL PAYMENT WAS PAID THROUGH THE PAYPAL INVOICE GENERATED ON DISCOGS, IT WILL HAVE TO BE REFUNDED AND PAID BY A DIFFERENT PAYPAL METHOD**
This is necessary because PayPal's 'Buyer Protection' policy forces sellers to guarantee the full value of shipments paid through PayPal invoicing even if buyer and seller have documented their agreement to a no-insurance/low-declaration arrangement. In other words, orders paid by PayPal invoice are always insured for the buyer, whether commercial insurance is purchased or not, so when commercial insurance is declined and/or low declaration requested, the seller is then exposed to all the risk for the full value of a shipment, even though the buyer may have requested no insurance.
Avoiding VAT and not buying insurance only benefit the buyer, not the seller, so associated risks are expected to be borne by the buyer. As PayPal's 'buyer protection' guarantee (at seller's expense) makes shifting this burden difficult for sellers, the following workaround has been created.
-----2c. THE WORKAROUND: The workaround for higher valued international shipments wishing for low declaration is for the buyer to instead initiate a PayPal 'personal payment' (not for merchandise) to [email protected], which allows us to ship low declaration/no insurance without being obligated by PayPal's 'Buyer Protection' program to guarantee the shipment.
I do not recommend this for valuable shipments, as there is no recourse for the buyer if the package is lost or damaged, but many buyers prefer to take the risk than be exposed to (increasingly) exorbitant VAT tariffs. This remains the only fair means to accommodate buyer's no-insurance/low declaration requests, while not unfairly exposing the seller to the risk of doing so.
If this was not clearly understood at the time of first payment, and someone who chose 'uninsured' decides to switch to 'insured', we can accommodate this by re-invoicing the order, and subsequently ship the order fully declared and insured.
-----2d. PROBLEMS WITH UNINSURED SHIPMENTS: While rare, it can happen. We will be happy to assist any way we can should the tracking of an uninsured/low declaration package stall without delivery, but please do not ask for refunds if such a package is lost or damaged in transit after its tracking confirms that we shipped it in good faith. If we knew that a buyer was set to ask for low declaration, causing a package to be uninsurable, but then expected us to guarantee safe age anyway, then we would not offer low-declaration/uninsured mail as an option at all. Allowing it is strictly as a courtesy to our customers. We expect our customers to realize this common-sense risk-for-saving-VAT-expense trade-off in dealing internationally.
3. REGARDING RETURNS: If a buyer wishes to return undamaged items that were accurately represented by us, we will be happy to reimburse the merchandise cost upon receipt. If a buyer wishes to return items that they believe don't match their descriptions, whether due to postal mishandling or any other cause, our policy (if we agree that there was seller error or damage due to postal handling) is to reimburse 1. the merchandise cost of the item(s), 2. the original shipping cost and 3. the shipping fee incurred by our buyer in returning the item(s). (see above for exceptions regarding uninsured international packages).
If in our opinion there had been no seller error and no subsequent damage caused by postal handling, then we reserve the right to reimburse merchandise cost only. We might consider a reasonable negotiation if a customer wants (or is willing) to keep an item they are not otherwise satisfied with (especially in cases of relatively inexpensive items shipped internationally), but if a buyer informs us they intend to return an item, under no circumstances do we refund any amount before the item(s) have been received and inspected by us. Thanks for understanding.
