Empyrean was the big surprise on the second part of The Coldest Season. I never expected such a real Dub track on this ep. It is the only real song on the whole album/ collection and it is genious. After listening the a-side with its deep and noisy hiss sounds representing the cold, Empyrean comes along with it's pure light and warm jamaican mood that brings you the summer.

Edited 17 years agoStunning suprise just wouldn't be enough to describe this 12" its everything i didn't expect from a deepchord / echospace related project. "Abraxas" is a tune which demonstrates their love for that deep drifting sound of Detroit & Berlin but with a really unique take on the sound which leaves you far in the artic regions. There is something in the atmosphere of these recordings, a certain subtle element no one is capable of replicating, it's truly a sound echospace have created. "The Coldest Season" is a perfect title for such a body of work, i couldn't think of a better way to describe the feeling the tracks give you. The flip side "Empyrean" is hands down the dopest thing i've ever heard from these guys, a touch of reggae and an organ that just kills me everytime i hear it. This release will probably take a while to catch on, imho, it's 10 years ahead of anything related to dub or techno. Unique just wouldn't say enough, this is the stuff of legend, I'm sure even the likes of Rhythm & Sound would agree. Couldn't recommend this record more, a must have for any fan of the dub tech sound, the deepest sh$# on earth!

Edited 18 years agoNow this is a DUB record, I would have never expected this to come out on modern love or anything related to deepchord as it's a world apart from most their work but this has all the magic I would expect from an artist like Lee Perry or King Tubby (in an instrumental dub) Massive tunes for the blunted, rocker rhythm's and the sweetest skank's i've heard in ages, respect! Not this is dub music! Ace
