The whole collection is well worth it. The Reimagined vinyl is ludicrously well produced and mastered - It's also a good snapshot of just how amazing producing / mastering has become when listening to the 1996 Endtroducing, made using 12bit samplers - the Endtroducing Reimagined sounds absolutely massive, the bass is so huge.
-
The first sleeve of "Excessive Ephemera" misprints/typos a track title -- Building Steam With A Grain Salt / Alternate take without overdubs -- but the hard cover book has the correct full title.
-
Does anyone know if the release sold directly through Universal is any different than the one sold through dj shadow dot com?

Edited 4 years agoA gorgeous set, packaged very nicely, pressed beautifully, and worth every penny!! No funny “remastered” business here, J.S. sticks to his guns, but the program has been changed up a bit on the original album component of this release, and appropriately so. By squeezing "Changeling/Transmission 1" onto side A, it shifts and shuffles how side B and C open and close, then goes back to the original programming in time for side D, ending each record with a "Transmission" basically. The record is also cut at a lower volume than the 96' vinyl release, but reinstates the color labels (which are not found on the 2002 repress, they came with black labels). I must say that the "Re-Imagined" material has more to do sonically with Shadow's most current release "The Mountain Will Fall" than it does with his first original masterpiece (the only real keeper being "Changeling II (Adrian Younge Remix)"). Mr. Younge seems to understand "Endtroducing.....", and in my opinion this man and his band should have been left to handle the whole remix/re-imagined project. ".....Ephemera" serves it's purpose with being exactly what it is—"Excessive.....", with the absolute must have "DJ Shadow Live In Oxford, England, Oct. 30, 1997" representing the other brilliant side of this man-“the performer".

Edited 8 years agoDon't know what my fellow "discogs audiophile nerds" buddies think about this one but I'm playing the original album out of this box right now and it's a huge improvement on my 2011 repress (I did buy it on CD at release time), pretty good pressing to my ears at least !
As for the bonuses I already had the "Excessive Ephemera" part of the 2005 Deluxe CD edition and listened to the remixes and of course they don't sur the original (which you would have guess I'm a huge fan...) but they are interesting and an enjoyable listening for sure !
So pretty happy with that box, yes it's no cheap but I would say it's a "Normal" price for 6 gatefold LPs in a nice sturdy box and a short but nice book these days, at least the pressing seems really good and this album well deserve that I bought it for a fourth time over the last 20 years enjoying it again and again... -
The Adrian Younge remix is really nice, the rest are pretty forgettable and i dont think anyone will be talking about them in 5 years never mind 20. It does sound good and is a nice pressing but stick to the original and save your money.
