I abused this album as a child it is all scratched up and I didnt appreciate the tune as a kid. Thankfully I have the CD single now but would have been cool to feature the video edit..which is even more hard to find now. -
I got this record in '89 along with I Wish U Heaven/ Scarlet Pussy being as I was the biggest 10 year old Prince fan in all of Ireland!... (my sister had to sit me down and explain that scarlet pussy was not about a cat! .. what magic cat! 'She could make you shoot your ego all over your sheets' :) Sex was my favourtie song on this Ep back then..' the 80s are over it's time for a new proclomation of monogamy and trust' I couldn't help but nod my head in sage agreement! In adulthood the Crime, The ion, The Rapture, has become my favourtie- what a slow burn of mood and loving erotic sensuality I always cheekily slip it on if it looks like thing might be progressing boudoir wise and it always sets the right mood -recommended! When 2 R In Love also really works on here with its similar production style and beautiful erotic love poetry. So thank you Prince for being a best friend to a lonely 10 year old, for inspiring me to become a musician and for sharing the joy and beauty of your erotic soul. -
Edited 2 years agoNobody before or since has made Bruce Wayne sexier than Prince. Nobody. Although Prince would've been too damn cool and pretty and funky to ever consider falling into the Justice League ranks, or conceiving a character that could equal Batman in the DC Comics universe, he was given the challenge of a lifetime in writing himself into the Batman saga with this classic slow jam. As it stands, "Scandalous" is one of his greatest ballads: a moody, sensuous slow-burner that finds him assuming the role of the rather elusive superhero, longing for a romantic rendezvous with the fellow dame, Vicki Vale. He took its eroticism up a notch with this featured maxi-single release, The Scandalous Sex Suite. Here, he expanded on the ballad and came up with an impeccably sequenced, three-part masterclass of seduction and persuasion that holds a special place in Prince's singles discography as a 'hidden gem.' The steaminess of this suite sent the entertainment press into a frenzy back in the day and Prince played along when he sold empty black jars in conjunction with the initial promo pressings of this EP. Controversy (and Kim Basinger fodder) aside, what a scorcher of a suite this is, with lots of soul, atmosphere (thanks to "sexophonist" Eric Leeds!) and color to boot. Oh, and if "The Rapture" isn't in your top five greatest Prince guitar solos, we're not friends. Know that! -
Sex. Prince at his finest. The alleged backstory is that Kim Basinger and Prince had sex during a portion of the creation of this EP, and Paisley Park VP Alan Leeds left the studio because he became uncomfortable when Prince got out the honey. When the sound engineers came in in the morning, there was honey all over the boards. Many of Kim Basinger's orgasmic sex sounds are on the EP, allegedly. She has never denied it. Only Prince, man.
