To anyone who doubts that Tom Jenkinson is one of the craziest minds in all of music, one only needs to listen to "Greenways Trajectory"; which starts off insane enough, before devolving into complete rhythmless psychosis(it truly sounds like the man vs machine war).
My third Pusher album(as crazy as that sounds), from the opening swagger of "My Red Hot Car" to the closing laid-back sleaze of "Plaistow Flex-out", this is definitely one for the collection. "The Exploding Psychology" is spine-tingling. "Go! Spastic" definitely lives up to its name(rarely dropping below 200+ BPM), and "My Fucking Sound" couldn't be further from its namesake on MRON if it tried.
NOT the place to start one's journey into Tom's mind, but a very rewarding(if not completely maddening) listen. -
Edited 18 years agoWhen I first listened to this, a few years ago, I didn't know this kind of freak music yet, and I didn't like it, except My Red Hot Car and the beautiful melodic part of The Exploding Psychology.
I listened to this again and again, and I began to understand the music. I began to understand that it was the real music, the less boring stuff.
Now, I find My Red Hot Car less cool, but The Exploding Psychology and I Wish You Could Talk are the two best tracks I know. And Plaistow Flex Out the best acid-ambient track. The all piece is a chef d'oeuvre, for me the most important album from Squarepusher, my favourite artist for this.
Listen to this in the night, lightless.

I was turned on to Jenkinson via the "Vic Acid" ep. Which could never have prepared me for this album. Go Plastic is as amazing as a record could possibly be. "Greenways Trajectory" blew my little mind. The sound of drums-n-bass forcing itself into the sky. The sheer underlining excitement of "My Fucking Sound" as compared to "My Sound" from "Music Is Rotted" is also exceptional. From the quiet church-like solemness of "Tommib" to "Go! Spastic" and what it implies, to the smooth bubbling chill of "Plaistow Flex Out" this is a record of greatness to anyone who truly loves electronic music.

This has got to be the most advanced Squarepusher stuff. I know there's plenty of this type of music around, but the sheer quality of it it both inspiring and depressing- I'm never going to make music this good. Try playing with it on your samplers, slow it down and it still sounds champion. It'd be great if you could slow it right down and just wallow in it, like a work of art. Hooks? Aplenty. Foul-mouthed and fast like a night at the dogs.

Lots of blitzed out drill and bass with experimental noises and sounds thrown in. Not much in the way of memorable hooks or melodies.

Edited 23 years agothis is one of the most impressive, disorientating and completely mad records i have heard since aphex twin's richard d. james album. absolutly breathtaking.
