It may be a bit stupid and thoughtless to write, but this song introduced the ''techno'' sound into the mainstream.....
When it appeared, in the early 90s, this cover by Klaus Doldinger made a real "show" on the dance floor...
Terribly tense and full of bursting tech sound, it was a real contrast to the slow and somewhat sleepy house scene on the dance floor... The quick rise to the top charts was truly unexpected, which was unthinkable for a true pure-blooded techno song. ..
(OK, let's exclude Kraftwerk, they are still special)....
After all this time, this song is still pure bomb on the dancefloor...
It's just sad that U96 as a project later got lost in commercial waters and sank into mediocrity...
Not even the later remix in 2001 could achieve the success that the debut Das Boot achieved.....

The video version of "Das Boot" was helped immensely by beautiful and atmospheric photography from the above mentioned movie, although help wasn't really needed since a lot of us were already walking around in school repeating the stupid "one-two-three-techno" mantra. However, there is no question about whom of Doldinger and U96 that contributed the meat of the track.

The single also benefits from "Tiefenrausch" which is similar in style yet different enough to be interesting. A great release, nothing ever released by U96 could compare to this single.

The original theme was created by Klaus Doldinger for the TV film "Das Boot".
