Notes
The Decca Stones' site has this style of label and associating it with 1968 because of the lack of the UK tax code found on earlier issues of this record. What distinguishes this edition from others are the curious matrix numbers, both ending in '2A', which is lower than any of the other matrix numbers listed here on Discogs.

'Between the Buttons' is easily the most eclectic of any of the Rolling Stones' albums. Seems to me that the Glimmer Twins are all over the place. I've heard Mick Jagger speak of this album with disdain, but frankly, I don't get it. The album features probably their best 'two-sided hit', 'Ruby Tuesday' and 'Let's Spend the Night Together'. 'Miss Amanda Jones' is Chuck Berry on amphetamines, fabulous guitar from Keef. Sexual fetishes are explored in 'All Sold Out' and 'My Obsession'. 'Complicated' is the closest Jagger comes to a love song ('Angie' be damned). 'She Smiled Sweetly' is a very good gospel tune. I just wish Bill Wyman had tuned his bass before the recording. 'Cool, Calm, Collected' is the Stones having spirited fun with jazz, and it works in its quirky way.
The only track that does not work at all for me is the oh-so-cute 'Something Happened to Me Yesterday', which seems much too self-consciously like some curious Stones' ode to 'Yellow Submarine'. The Beatles were cute. The Stones aren't. -
If other owners would check their versions of this particular album and see if you have the '2A' matrix, I'd appreciate it if you would let me know.
