Jon Hassell talks about this album and his working method in a autumn 1985 interview on KCRW. Apparently Power Spot was ready for release at the start of that year ('85) but a problem with the original record company (Island Records) meant that the album was now "up for grabs" and ultimately appeared on ECM the following year.

this is outstanding! the cooperation of jon hassell with brian eno brought us the marvelous and timeless 4th world albums, which are highly recommended for open ears. power spot is also produced by brian eno, he is also heard on 2 tracks, and engineered by daniel lanois, both fits perfectly. the music is atmospheric, hypnotic and not from this world, kind of magic. jons trumpet sound is unique. big part of the music is the ethno percussion, which i enjoy very much. for me it is for the night time, a soundtrack for mind journeys and for the inner astronauts, the music can bring you to some weird places...have a nice trip!
