such a disaster , recording quality is very poor. Definately need another version of this awesome album

Do not buy this pressing; unless you enjoy clicks, pops, and straight up skips in your listening. Also, is poorly mastered and noticably quiet. Upon first listen I was extremely disappointed. A complete disrespect to kyuss. I give this 1/5 stars.

Lot's of surface noises, clic, pop, mini scratch.. before and After cleaning with knosti.. too Bad, the sound is excellent on my system !
-
Sure there’s a bit more noise come having to turn this up more, but it still sounds pretty good to me. My disc certainly could not be described as flimsy. I haven’t gone as far as to weigh the thing but it feels thicc. This album in particular I don’t get distracted with a few extra pops and crackle just due to the overall dusty biker road aesthetic. Cope? Maybe, but I’m not mad about listening to this pressing!
-
Terrible sounding pressing. As others have mentioned, it’s mastered poorly, needs to be turned up loud, and has tons of surface noise.
Even after a good cleaning, during quiet parts of songs pops and clicks were very audible. Super disappointing. -
Awful. Just reeks of low effort. Doesn't seem to have been remixed for vinyl, sounds flat and low volume. Didn't even bother to credit the correct bass player on the cover. Worst sounding record I own.

Kyuss should always be listened to LOUD, and to get this record to be loud, you need to crank the volume up way past 11. This obviously raises the noise floor, so any crackles or dust become really audible. It is a quiet pressing, but the sound is pretty flat to be honest. I would only recommend buying this if you see it cheap and you really want to own a copy on vinyl. I paid $19 inc. shipping from US to UK so at that price, I am not disappointed. But this fantastic album deserves proper mastering and a quality reissue.

Edited 4 years agoDon't do what I did and pay resale for this only to be massively disappointed in how limp-dicked this piece of wax sounds. Does no justice to the music. I have not heard any of the German pressings of Kyuss albums from the 90s, and maybe they are better than these Rhino reissues, but they aren't reasonable at all in of price. Personally I will be ready and waiting to throw my money at somebody who actually does a proper reissue of this band's catalog on wax, spreading these albums out over 2 LPs and doing a quality job.

I recommend cleaning before the first play. The recording is noisier, but ... the stoner should be dusty :-)
