Edited one year agoBack in the fall of 1983 when "Total Eclipse of the Heart" was climbing the charts in the US, I bought multiple copies of the 45 because I wore it out. (I lived in Virginia but was attending college in Tennessee.) I never paid attention to whatever timing was listed on the label, but the 45 release had the 5:30 version, not the 4:30 one—and the 5:30 version is the one they always played on the radio at the time. So I've always considered the 5:30 version to be the proper single version and the 4:30 version to be a poorly edited version of that. Sadly, the latter is what I mostly hear these days on the radio.
