Why don't people like the cover, I think it's cool. Three cheers for Morrissey when he got some balls and really started to rock with this Lp and following record album Long-players, some of his greatest music is contained therein. It;s possible (but by no means certain) that a cover of Chuck Berry's 'Almost Grown' would go down well now - the fact that Morrissey is almost 70 would act as both humourous counterpoint and perhaps a sage intimation that we are all only 'almost grown' after a lifetime on this earth, only so much wisdom can be received by these crude vessels we call our bodies. If said hypothetical cover were released, perhaps as an exclusive 5-copies-inly Record Shop Day pressing, the picture sleeve could maybe recreate the photo by Gerard Malanga of Holly Wooflawn (Sit!) on a hospital bed, because New York and all that. B-side could be Bo Diddley's Pills as smuggled by NY Dolls. Yours lovingly, Th' Tenby Bootleggers, NY Smigglers, Smugglers, R'n'R Pirates, etc.

Edited 3 years agoBelieve it or not since I bought this on vinyl I've started to like this album more....
In my top Moz record list it's not at the same level of "Vauxhall And I" or "Viva Hate" but time is giving it justice, a solid effort, rewarded by a very good vinyl pressing. -
Love this album, it's one of several in the 90s that I bought and never played as I didn't have my record player with me, but wanted large sleeve artwork, so I know my copy is mint unplayed. Highly underrated Moz album. 10/10 from me.

Quite a different departure for the Moz. One of the most underrated albums . There’s no filler here and each track rocks along . There perhaps could have been a minute or so editing on ‘The operation ‘ but once it gets going it has an infectious groove .
Teachers are afraid of the pupils has to be one of the best openers ever . Subject matter reminiscent of The Smiths and a subject close to Morrissey’s heart.
Reader meets author is a well crafted , typically Morrissey single which should have done better .
Pressing wise the RCA release is a belter . Really punchy with none of the current clicks and pops you often find on more modern pressings. For the year it was released it’s also a good weight vinyl too . I doubt the repress will match this . Grab it if you can find one for sensible money . -
