Edited 5 months agoThis is just superb pressing. I never had any issues with MOV, unlikely many of the "audiophile* labels, especially MOFI.

Yeah, I agree with what's been said here. This is a very sleek good quality piece of vinyl. I'm increasingly finding very good records by Music On Vinyl. CLEAN, flat, dynamic and very nicely mastered. Would I spend a small fortune on a 45rpm of this? ..nah! This is gorgeous and hits the spot everytime. The Mingus Ah Hum by MoV is also fabulous and restores my faith in modern vinyl production...

Stupendously good release as is so often the case for me with MOV.... the pressing is as quiet as any ive got while being flat and centered (something the pricey APP AND mofi stuff doesnt always end up being!). The mastering of this ittedly already near perfectly engineered recording shines through... it really is a demo disc for a relatively measly £25 to show off any system regardless of price. I wont even bother buying the 45rpm Mofi or the One Steps which may sound 5% to 10% better but they incur 500% the cost. Less flipping sides is always better for an album listening especially one with a proggy concept to it. Colour me EXTREMELY satisfied indeed.
Tested on a Pioneer PL51 with Ortofon 2m Black LVB 250 edition, Unison S8 integrated amp and Tannoy Kensington GR loudspeakers -
Can someone please explain the difference (sonically) between this release and the other 2011 MOV pressing??
I've been searching through Hoffman forums, reviews and reddit posts for the past hour or two and have been finding wildly contradictory reports. Some say the legacy edition is a brand new remaster (different than the one done in 2007), others claim the additional outtakes to be the only difference. It's incredibly frustrating. Legacy's website eludes to this being a new mastering, but I can't find anyone to comment on it versus the previous versions. And for that matter, does it differ from the one used by Mofi on their SACD and 45prm versions? Which remaster version are they using?
If anyone can help with this, it would be greatly appreciated! -
I cannot say enough good things about the this pressing and the quality of the remaster. I will not deny any potential sound complaints anyone else might have, as I am an okay trained ear so to speak, but there is always someone deeper down the rabbithole.
The bonus material is also very interesting and adds to the overall package quite nicely. -
New remaster personally overseen by Alan Parsons + 14 bonus tracks + booklet. 2 LP 180-gram audiophile vinyl by Music on Vinyl. Sounds better than ever. A classic. Iconic.

Edited 4 years agoThis version sounds good, but it's not the best version on vinyl. Maybe in this price range it is. The sound is very clear, excellent separation, and more than enough bass, although it could use a bit more punch. The problem with this version is the treble is a touch too hot, which results in some rather shrill and unpleasant high notes (high-pitched vocals and guitars in particular). It is also a louder pressing compared to the UHQR version, which drastically outperforms this release with its stunning sound density. While that release is significantly more expensive, it is still possible to obtain a copy of MFSL's 2016 45RPM remaster. The 45RPM version is on par with the UHQR for quality, but I haven't compared them side-by-side yet to see which is king. Nevertheless, the extra cost of the UHQR is not necessary to reach the best level of quality for the brilliant 'I Robot' unless it is wanted for collection purposes.
The vinyl is perfectly flat to my eye, and the high-gloss gatefold is heavy. The 8-page booklet included has some interesting liner notes from the talented and always-humble Alan Parsons. As this is my 4th copy of this album, the different album cover looks great in the collection. Contrary to the pictures here, my copy came in a thick, resealable plastic outer sleeve with a different hype sticker. It's not quite the thick plastic we would see on a Japanese audiophile pressing, but a nice touch nonetheless. -
