Edited 4 years agoI love this soundtrack! In fact, I might love the soundtrack more than the movie. But it's an amazing theme, and incidental music that moves from moody to comical without skipping a beat. I'm so glad that they reused the theme for the Animated Series. As great as the theme is, there isn't a track that is equally as memorable. When you think of some other soundtracks from the 80s, there is the theme but also a few leitmotifs interspersed that are as unforgettable. Not so much the case here; the rest of the soundtrack is there mainly to set a mood- but it does it perfectly for the film, and independent of the movie it's an enjoyable listen. Even incorporating Stephen Foster works well for setting the mood. One of Danny Elfman's best soundtracks, if not his best.
Unfortunately, this Canadian pressing is a bit thin. The late 80s was not kind to sound quality on vinyl, and this feels like a cheap Warner release, with not so much care to whether this actually sounded good on hi-fi equipment. I guess the focus was all on CD at the time, during these few weird hybrid years when albums were getting dual media releases.
