I am waiting for an audiophile pressing that includes the CD bonus tracks "Halo of Gold" and "Black Balloon"

Incredible sound. Works out to 42 mins on first disc, 10 min on 7 inch. There’s no compression, wonderful sound stage. Great pressing.

I bought this when it first came out. What a fine record. Wide open soundstage, and great bass extension. Produced with a fun array of instruments, from trombone, upright bass, organ, and percussion. I never get tired of this one. Kudos to Beck and what was likely a fun studio session. You can't go wrong with this pressing.

Edited one year agoGorgeous sound on this press. Separation, sound stage - superb. The arrangements never sound/feel
cluttered. The last song on each side sounds as good as the first. Bought my copy on day of release in Stoke on Trent - ‘98 my first year at university. Was ready for a nostalgia fest when I dropped the needle, instead blown away by the quality of the press. A real treat to pull off the shelf today and hear such an audio feast. -

There's now a grey vinyl version on the market (cat # BL39) - anyone know if this is a genuine re-release or a bootleg?

Can someone explain to me why the value of this record is so high? Was it truly limited in numbers? Were sales very low upon release? Because it was produced by Nigel Godrich? Because it's on a small indie label despite him being signed to a major at the time?
Or did I just answer my own question (all of the above)?
