I have one I just bought. Cost me a bit. Very nice shape overall. Very plain cover with little text. -2 on 3 sides, side 3 is -4.

I just opened mine up for the first time since 1982 (BMC10). This set was played once back then to record to cassette tapes. I am in the process of recording all the discs to 24bit/96khz digital, so this is only the second time they have been played. They all sound terrific and are dead quiet, especially the White album. My spine says "The Beatles" at the top and ONLY the mono number at the bottom. My stereo copy from the same year has both the stereo and mono cat numbers on the spine. I would guess they ran out of the mono only covers and resorted to the stereo/mono ones towards the end of the run in '82.

This listing says that the sleeve is not laminated, but my copy absolutely is laminated. No number on it so this must be the original one that came with the records. Now, I have 1976 reissues that aren't laminated, so I'm sure most 1981 copies weren't either, but maybe some of them were? Any help would be appreciated.

Very very strong pressing. I dont have an original -1 x4 copy but I would assume it would sound about the same as this does. I think this is the best mono mix of the Beatles catalogue, because you can really hear the depth of the recordings in the mono mix of this album. Same thing here, -2/-2/-4/-2 on my copy. I still however prefer the 2014 mono cutting, as it is a bit more clear and 3 dimensional.

Dead quiet vinyl with great analogue sonics and wide mono soundstage. Highly recommend this pressing.

Edited 2 years agoMy 1981 mono UK LP set has the identical runouts as Variant 1. However on Side 4 going counter clockwise from the XEX 712-2, there is a 2 at the 3 o'clock position and a 4 at the 9 o'clock position. The LP jacket on my copy only has the mono number at the bottom of the spine. My copy also has the original EMI paper inner sleeves dated 3/81.

Edited 2 years agoIf you would like a video log of all of these 81 monos which is by a Beatles historian you can’t go wrong here. Even does some comparisons to the 2014 mono set which overall is slightly inferior to the 81s taken as a whole. When I compared them with various shootouts the 1981 monos took it for most of the releases. Enjoy this

This pressing sounds amazing, hot stamper with all the dynamics. The White album in mono is a must for any Beatles collector.

Does this copy also have the Stereo PCS 7067-8 on the spine as well as the mono cat. no. Mono PMC 7067-8?
I have a sealed copy which has a "Virgin Records" price tag on and it has the numbers: 101282 above the price: £6.99.
I am trying to work out which release it would be and am thinking the numbers on the price would show that it was stock on 10 December 1982, bought in the UK Virgin Megastore.
If anyone has any info on the spine, it would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks!
