Beyond underrated. I absolutely relish, and applaud, the fact that this is not Discovery II. It's jarring, intense, stripped down electro with lashings of guitar. At times downright evil (The Brainwasher), yet also not without it's softer moments (Make Love), Human After All is Daft Punk's unexpected, deeply misunderstood sharp left turn. There is no One More Time here and that is the point and it's what makes this album, for me, so enjoyable. It almost feels renegade in tone, making complete sense of an artist like Peaches remixing herself into Technologic. Speaking of remixes the Human After All Japanese remix album is an absolute must as well.
The power of Human After All can be summed up best by experiencing Alive 2007, where tracks like Prime Time Of Your Life, Television Rules The Nation and The Brainwasher were unleashed into a live setting, seamlessly integrated and mutated into tracks from Discovery and Homework, becoming the backbone of the whole set. Human After All is a difficult record, it's far less friendly and requires a significant amount of effort (not to mention adjustment) from the listener. The effort pays off and becomes more rewarding with repeated listening. I hope in time critical opinion of this album is reassessed, Human After All is far cleverer and more complex record than it's current reputation as the repetitive low point in Daft Punk's discography suggests.
