This album is a masterpiece. Simply it blows my mind every time. I had already heard a few tracks from this album so bought it and I was in ear heaven. This shows the level of musicianship, production skills and imagination of such a person as Jamie Odell. He is a genius of jazz, Nujazz rhythms and house music - and the uniqueness you will hear in this production will justify the words I am sharing. Humbly, get a copy.

Great album. Jazzy drum n' bass. Very bad soundquality and bad mixing, has some fillers but I recommend it! First and last tracks are just stand-out, excellent.

A remarkable first album from the Jimpster. In actuality, MARTIAN ARTS is a collection of his early EPs on Freerange, and while the tracks don't show the polish of his later work, they're still significantly better than the majority of what es as "future jazz" these days. "Martian Arts" starts things off with some atmospheric synths before it moves into a horn chorus. "Slow 'n' Low" is quiet and meditative. "Frames with Frames" features skewed melodies, sustained chords, and a vocal scat sample, all held together by the rhythm. "Mind Painting" has some nice woodwinds, while "Stateside on Monday" establishes a strong groove. "Wild Light" gets peppy, while the closing track, "Playtime," swings into a mellow state. An excellent debut.

Just not a good album. Suffers from a lot of the sampling thought and technique of the time. A lot of dumb, long played out voice samples which wear quite thin in just a few listens. Jimpster has not yet found his voice with this album. There are a few pieces like "Playtime" in which he is beginning to see he's got much more vision and talent than the average "sampladelic producer". For incredible Jimpster stuff check out the PERENNIAL PLEASURES 12" on Kudos.
