For those who wonder what sound differences there are between the SACD (DSD) and the CD (PCM) layer. In this link I ed a side-by-side comparison that you can play with. The CD layer sounds louder but if you listen to the compensated version, it is very difficult to notice any difference.

This 30th anniversary 2003 Hybrid CD/SACD sounds wonderfully impressive as a 5.1 surround experience. In an A/B comparison on my multitrack editing app, if you lower the volume of the CD layer of the hybrid SACD by 2dB then it sounds exactly the same as the 1992 remastered CD (EMI 7243 8297522 9, EU pressed). There has clearly been compression applied in the 2003 remaster to achieve the extra ~3dB of loudness. The other differences are that the 2003 wave file is inverted as compared to the 1992 CD, and it has almost 3 seconds less in the first track's intro. There are several differences, some quite distinct, in the track mark placements in the 2003 and 1992 remasters. Both discs are worth owning for their individual advantages: the 1992 CD for its fully dynamic uncompressed audio, and the 2003 Hybrid SACD for its high definition 5.1 surround sound option.

yes ginnnn!!!!
but also, I have sort of damaged mine, it's weird there are not really any scratches on it..but it skips in the beginning and then later in the middle...but i cleaned it with just water and a microfibre cloth....did i damage my own sacd,,,i did it because i thought i saw grease on it..did i ruin my only copy of dsotm sacd...
yes ginnnn!!

It is best enjoyed with a glass of gin in a darkened room. The SACD surround release will be the fifth version of this classic rock Pink Floyd album that I have owned. Having listened to the stereo 2 channel release on vinyl and CD for the past 3 decades I am quite familiar with the music content and the 2 dimensional stereo sound stage. I bought the SACD release just to hear the 5.1 Dolby Surround remix effects and I am very pleased by the immersive experience. But I do wonder what the earlier Alan Parsons Quadraphonic remix sounded like.
