Side 1 "Drive", Side 2 "Ride". Tracks are sequentially numbered on the back cover and from 1 to 6 on the labels for each side.
Oddly enough some promo packages were sent to record stores with bags of roasted peanuts in the shell. They were sent to our store with all the posters/promo CDs/LPs/cassettes. I've listed it with the LP as the Warner Bros. sales rep knew to send our store vinyl. Obviously this didn't come with all promos, but I included it for fans who might be curious. I just saved the bag(pictured above), not the nuts.

Doesn't get better than this musically or sonically. Recently played this on a new system and it brought tears to my eyes. Excellent soundstage, crystal clear separation, it's like being there.
Music: 10/10
Pressing: 10/10 -
I have just picked up a sealed copy. Is there any way to tell this issue from the 1999 reissue from the outside? What is on the spine of the original? Thanks for any help.

Edited one year agoHonestly, I don't know if I'm crazy or what, but I swear that I got another version when I bought this as a present for my friend back in 1992. We were high school friends who graduated in 1992 and went to different colleges. I got it for her and we listened to it on her bedroom record player at her parents' house at Christmastime. I distinctly the vinyl being translucent yellow, and thinking it was neat that it was just like the inlay tray in the CD that I had bought a few months earlier. Is this completely wrong? Was there no colored vinyl version in the US at that time?

I use this original US version LP as a test reference for high end turntables and cartridges. I’ve had this since it first came out and although I’ve played it several times it is handled like the rare artifact it is and still reveals stunning detailed analog mastering during playback on a good system. No surface noise at all.

Edited 6 years agoThis is a superb sounding record. Sound is warm, full, rich, spacious. Big drums. Defined bass. Excellent midrange. Enhanced subtle detail. Clear vocals. Clean press. No surface noise. I would reccomend this version. Vocals are haunting on Everybody Hurts.

To anyone who intends to get this original version :
a. No sound issues at all with any track on this record
b. Tonal balance, depth of bottom end, clarity of top end -- all are different and superior to German Alsdorf release.
c. Vinyl itself is dead quiet without a single pop ( in case you get it sealed / opened unplayed) as it is factory housed in a separate poly-line sleeve. -
Edited 10 years agoBeware of misinformation below. Original US pressings are fine! If the matrix numbers match what is listed here, you are good to go. I have a US pressing and it sounds great; no issues with Nightswimming. It's the cheaply made (counterfeit?) repressing of the US press that is defective. That one came out circa 2007.

I have a pressing with the above matrix and there are no issues with Nightswimming. The records sounds great as well.
