Nat King Cole had one of the most distinctive and appealing singing styles in all of pop music. His voice was strong and forthright ... yet it was also soft and intimate, a voice with lovely colors and textures, delivering a rich full open sound and a catchy way of phrasing. It was simply, an unforgettable voice. He started out as a pianist with his King Cole Trio, and by the mid 40's, he'd begun singing ballads, revealing such a unique talent that his jazz career became secondary. Even so, his jazz instincts remained with him, and it was his feeling for jazz phrasing, along with the immediately identifiable textures of his voice, that made him of the great figures in the history of pop culture. Here, gathered in the extensive collection [aprox. 10 songs per album times 8 albums, housed in a fine slipcase, and audiophile sleeves], are the memorable performances that made Nat Cole inimitable in his lifetime ... a singer with a sound so personal that you know who it is the moment you hear the first note.
