Anouk has on Urban Solitude in their own hands the strings tighter than on her debut Together Alone. They broke off the collaboration with George Kooymans, Barry Hay, and produced the plate itself, wrote as good as all the songs (with fixed songwrite-partner Bart van Veen) and took the songs with her own band. Her second album sounds much more pure and more directly thereby fairer, than its predecessor and proves that Abbas only has grown as a singer and composer. Listen to the impressive ballads Tom Waits and My Friend and solid rock or In The Sand, the Skunk Anansie-like you Being you and the funky The Dark.
