An ambitious & daring diverse rock album mixing plenty of hard rock, slow moving blues shuffles, twelve string acoustic guitar instrumentals, folk songs & ballads, long winding funk jam masterworks, eastern trance treasures, Beatle-ish pop & down-n’-dirty rock-n-roll romps on a plethora of multi-faceted songs on one monumental album. The first disc contains classics while the second disc is a collection of left over songs from their previous albums, mostly the fourth and fifth album.
They all had the individual talent - Page was an unimpeachable riff writer & producer, bassist & keyboardist John Paul Jones is an arranger without equal, John Bonham is hands-down the most ferocious drummer ever & while we can ignore vocalist Robert Plant's hammy lyrical preoccupation with swords and sorcery he possesses the quintessential rock howl.
This is Led Zep at the height of their talent & maybe their last truly great moment. A monolithic epic masterpiece of rock.
