Just ordered from Amazon UK for 27 quid. Has to be worth it, regardless of comments about packaging?
-
Listening to first CD now…on the louder side compared to my normal listening base line. Sound quality is reasonable to me. I mean…I haven’t thought ‘this sounds bad’ at any stage.
Quality of the packaging is very average. But overall it’s a great set for me not having owned any of their albums. -
Uncannily for an "all-in-one+extras" box like this - not a weak moment to be found here. Thorough compilation work and musically (in my opinion) excellent throughout.
Like Sedan75 said - take notice, you CAN still get it for a cover price of about EU.50 for now, don't go wasting unnecessarily with greedy private sellers. -
Sounds fine to me. But im not one of the bat-eared folk who moan on the Hoffman forum about masterings post 1993. Im very happy with this and this coming from someone who has all the 12”s and both albums on vinyl. 5/5

Great compilation, very complete and well presented.
Being just released, price is around 50 euros, not what is already asked by some greedy people... -
The set is very, very loud in volume. Not sure about the other reviewer who claims it's low in volume with no dynamics because that makes no sense, but it's very loud with very compromised dynamics. The packaging is ok but will not hold up with much more than a few looks before it starts separating. Mine showed up with crushed corners so I'm having another sent to me. I don't like the discs in that slide in side pocket design because there's nothing stopping from scuffing the discs. It's fine for the completists but you might want to keep your original discs also.

Edited one year agoI thought the loudness wars were over. This release (the CD version is what I'm referring to), is by far the loudest of the CD releases that I have.
That said there is good separation on this version, but the loudness at times ruins it. Chrysalis should have kept the detail and separation and jettisoned the loudness, then it would have been perfect.
The mix of The More I See (The Less I Believe) is slightly different on this release than on the CD version of Waiting that I have, which was released as part of the double album CD release. I'm not sure why that would be. But they both start differently. UPDATE: The difference is where the cue has been set for track one vs track two on these individual CDs
The packaging comes with a book. In my package, the book was already ripped off its staples. Somewhat cheaply.
Overall after comparing between the CDs I have and this new release, it's a missed opportunity on the sound front. This is loud, without question and I am mystified that anyone would conclude otherwise.

Edited one year agoThis is for the digital version from iTunes. Overall an excellent and very thorough compilation although a little loud at times. Oh those remastering techniques! (no one really seems to get them right do they?) Fans I'm sure will get this comprehensive set before it goes out of print and starts commanding three digit prices online.
