Edited 11 months agoSteve Wilson brings his magic to one of the 80s high points. Bass is the big winner here, with the overall mix being way more balanced. Only criticism is that there are points where the vocals are very harsh, though this was probably inherent in the original mix. Has anyone noticed how ordinary the first three tracks sound in the original mix? Yes, Steve has vastly improved them in his mix. Even the vinyl remaster sounds dreadful on the corresponding tracks.

Edited one year agoA very enjoyable listen, whatever your tastes... original, remix, or surround it's all here. However, one has to wonder what Trevor Horn would do if he dared to do a surround mix of this masterwork.

Top shelf blu ray audio mix by Steve Wilson. These sde blu ray releases are pretty cool and I hope they continue. Would love to see a cure or new order lp get the works, but most likely wishful thinking

Edited one year agoThat Steve Wilson guy is full of s**t. Who is he to remix such an icon as Trevor Horn? And this so-called 'remix' itself is absolutely pointless (as is his band, Porcupine Tree, by the way). Anyway, one thing makes me smile: "The Look Of Love, Pt.4 (Steven Wilson 2022 Instrumental Mix)". Wtf? This song IS instrumental by deafult! Total waste of time...

Unfortunately, Steve Wilson's remix removes all the lushness from the recording. It's almost unlistenable if you ire the original - which is one of the greatest albums ever. Trevor Horn remains the definitive producer.

Edited one year agoOnce again SDE delivers a stereo audio delight.
The flat transfer of the original 1982 stereo mix at 24/96 is now clearly the definitive stereo version of this album and it brings further clarity and insight.
The Steve Wilson stereo remix again sounds amazing and presents a different overall picture where everything sounds more real, that is to say as Steve states most of the album was real instruments and I think it captures more of the real band sound. It’s different for sure, the drums and bass guitar are far more up front in the mix with more punch and I’d say it diverges further than his previous remixes (that I’ve heard).
Both stereo mixes are fantastic and sound amazing. -
