I bought this when it was first released. I was in High School. I graduated in 1985 so it must have just come out. I didn’t know much about Jazz. The guy in the record store recommended it and I trusted his opinion. I am glad I did. Honestly I have probably only listened to it about 20 times in the last 35+ years. I recently upgraded my system. New McIntosh ML1 loudspeakers, a Manley Chinook phono stage, a very nice ortofon 2M Black LVB 250 phono cart on my Dual CS5000 turntable.

Myszka is right, the horns come out strongly out of the left channel. I can only imagine Dexter was sitting over there. On my copy everything is crystal clear. If I close my eyes and look 5 degrees to my left I can almost see him there. That is just how incredible this recording sounds. I honestly think the clear and beautiful left ear trumpet was intentional. My copy is perfect. I am so glad I didn't play it that much over the years. It is now my special occasion mindful listening disk for years to come.

I'm not sure if it's reissue problem or the recording in general but trumpet is boosted ridiculously loud in comparison to the rest of instruments. When I wanted to play concert level loud and drums reached about 80dB the trumpet was sometimes over 100dB blasting to left ear! Matching loudness to trumpet leaves the rest of instruments underwhelming. The sound quality is stunning but volume matching between instruments not balanced
