Edited one month agoI finally got this version for myself, A3/A2. People have mentioned several times that the A2 side skips during the track 'Money'. Apparently, some of the stampers were faulty. I don’t have that issue on my copy – mine is SHVL 804 A-3 GLP / SHVL 804 B-2 GHT. So, based on my own experience, I can recommend this exact version. And the sound -> it is incredibly good. It easily beats my 30th Anniversary version, which had been my best version until now. That one’s going up for sale now.

Edited one month agoJust wondered if anyone could help me. I think I have a copy of this issue. All is identical to the above, however, it does not say ‘Made in Great Britain’ at the bottom of the record? Anyone care to advise me on this? Thanks in advance

There are two UK A3/B3 pressings? They both sounds great and If you find it, just grab it. This one is probably the oldest one A3/B3. On those two UK A3/B3 presings, the text Made In Gr. Britain is placed on different places.

Edited one year agoSecond issue and second pressing are two different things. There are some who think the A3/B3 second "issue" is the one to own. I am one who likes it better than an A2/B2. There are fewer of the A3/B3 than there are the A2/B2, which technically makes this rarer and truthfully undervalued right now.

Edited 3 months agoHi, Is this copy of the 2nd issue from the first pressing The Great Gig In The Sky.?
I mean, is this first pressing at the expected level, because the 5th pressing from 1977 has better reviews on Discogs.
Thank you in advance for your or comment.

Edited one year agoI have a beautiful copy of this pressing with all the extras, and i must say it does sound really great. Better than the MFSL half speed i have (which i find over-rated), but to be honest the best sounding, to my ears, in my collection (i have multiple copies, DSOTM being a slight obsession) is an Australian quadrophonic pressing, strange as that may sound. (I don’t have a million dollar system but it’s also by no means a piece of shit.)

Trying to identify my copy, potentially as a new variant. Label has "blue outline prism" design and rear sleeve has centre-aligned text on the top-right as expected. Matrix runouts are SHVL 804 A-3 RMR (possibly RHR) with a potential scratched-out marker on the A-side, SHVL 804 B-2 PR on the B-side. Any assistance appreciated.

This masterpiece is 50 years old today ! Happy birthday DSOTM !
Phenomenal musical journey everyone have to experience while alive.
I don't have first pressing to compare, but as for me A3/B3 sounds as good as it can be.
30th anniversary KG cut, however, very close second place, just upper end is not that sharp.
Sold my 2016 copy because it's digital and feels compressed. -
Edited 3 months agoMine’s an A3/B2. Despite it not being in stellar condition (VG+ for record and VG for gatefold - no posters or stickers) yet the sound quality is bloody staggering! Especially when I compared it to the 2016 BG cut, 2003 30th anniversary KG cut, 40th anniversary and finally some early AU stereo and quad pressings) Save for some ticking on track 2 due to a scratch, the vinyl on mine was commendably low on surface noise too (after a few wet cleans)
***Update 26 Jan 2025: I pitted the A3/B2 against my 50th anniversary today and it’s clarity and scale outshone the 50th and the difference was not subtle either! In saying that though, the 50th in isolation is a very decent sounding pressing and all said, I do really like it and it’s a perfect edition to own as a go to copy or for someone wanting an affordable DSOTM copy. On my system and to my ears, I personally prefer it over the 2016 BG cut.
