The work is inspired by the fairy tale of the same name contained in The Cunto de li Cunti by Giambattista Basile, mixing it with other versions, written and oral, of the same fairy tale. At the core of this work is the research work by the author and his group, the New Society of Folk Song, in the oral and musical traditions of southern Italy. From a musical point of view the work is a clever mix of popular music (villanelle, Moorish, tammurriate) and classical music, the text is in Naples, a Neapolitan almost timeless, a language in certain strata of the population remained unchanged over the centuries.
The main protagonist of the cat Cinderella is the city of Naples, a city-daughter, a victim of the power of a wicked stepmother and foreign occupiers.
