Remastered from original analog master tapes. Issued in a gatefold jacket with a full-size 12-page booklet with photos and a foreword by Will Oldham. 100% superior to the 2022 non-gatefold pressing.
Masterful in every way and worth picking up if you’ve always loved this record. -
Forgetting the packaging, any comparisons sound wise on this vs the 2004 reissue? Is there an undisputed definitive version?

This pressing is nothing short of amazing. No noise, bass is deep and the overall sound is sharp and clear. Impressive given the recording circumstances. -
Purchase attempt number 1 -
Mastering is incredible - pressing is poor. Mine is a wonky off-centre, surface whooshing, pops and crackles after deep cleaning nightmare.
I can tell from the sculpted edges of the quieter sounds and their crystal clear definition that I'd love a quiet and flat and centred version of this mastering.... I really hope this exists but I can't even listen to this.
My 1999 or whatever spiderland is dead quiet and centred and absolutely kills this as a listening experience
Sad times.

The music sounds great and powerful, but I've now ordered two copies and both are noisier (crackly, surface noise) than I'd like for such a dynamic, occasionally quiet record. I haven't thoroughly cleaned them yet, so maybe that will help. The vinyl itself is insanely thick.

Edited 2 years agoThere's also a cheaper non-gatefold version of this out there (2022). Does anyone know if it's the same mastering? or any other significant differences in of sound quality?
