Edited 11 months agoDamn good to just hear the early Ice Cube again, with his hard, serious attitude and lyrical sharpness, without any party claim or concessions to a larger audience. Simply washing over you like a welcome shower and “comfort food”. Angry and atmospherically dense hardcore rap, with wild, haptic sounds from Sir Jinx, collages like "Jackin' For Beats" and at least with a guest appearance by "partner in rhyme" Chuck D. Doesn't quite reach the peak like his album from the same year, but still rolls over long distances like an avalanche into the valley. The pressing is excellent, loud and powerful, yet balanced and transparent with clean basses and clear highs. Probably Ice Cube's most underrated album, even if it's more of a longer EP with just six tracks and a skit. Man, and I wish "I Gotta Say What Up!!!" with its beat wouldn´t be only a the basis for a batch of shoutouts.
