This album is incredible! The vinyl pressing was incredible, the sound is good, with the exception of "I Turn to You (Hex Hector Mix). In my opinion there are distortions in the sound, mainly in the highs, which do not harmonize well with the bass. It needs to be washed your vinyl before playing, it came very dirty. -
Edited 2 years agoalright...i've literally waited for so long for this release on vinyl. i played this album hundreds of times as a kid. i've searched many times on discogs if it had maybe came out on vinyl. i was 15 when it got out, now i'm 38 and i finally got the chance to get it on vinyl. i got to live that long! :) i love all the memories it brings back, i love melanies voice. but for someone who buys vinyl records for the sound, this is a bit overpricey for such mastering. i bet they could master it and make a better record (and this is the first time it's out on vinyl) if they used the fourth freaking side instead of putting that etched picture on it. are people putting that on the wall or something? i completely agree with what mike g wrote here on Apr 30, 2022.
i didn't expect it to sound so different. it's not all so bad, but it's not great eather. "never be the same again" sounded awesome to me. not so happy with hex hector's radio mix for "i turn to you". some sibilance problems on some tracks.
other than the sound, the records came with some small residue, as others stated. i could easily clean that. the record itself is very silent, so silent between the tracks that my denons amp shuts the sound down untill the next songs starts because it's too silent :) some crackles here and there, but perfect in that way. i did get one skip while playing it the first time, but that was due to that paper residue. it played fine the second time.
in the end - anyone who waited that long should get it, i think :) -
Great album. Very happy to see this long-overdue release. But the vinyl was SO filthy, and both sides of my disc#1 had pretty big patches of glue from the paper sleeve on them. I couldn't remove them with several rounds of wash using triple-strength vinyl solution. Ended up using De-solv-it and phew it worked. They have gotta to stop those paper sleeves without lining. Come on! -
As much as I love this release, I have to say, pictures and quality are AMAZING - but - the vinyl was so dirty that actually a piece of paper was stuck on "Go!" that now, after carefully cleaning it, it's a scratch that makes the vinyl jump. Either way, I'll be purchasing another copy because it's STUNNING. -
It's always interesting when old albums and tracks get repressed many years later to see how the sound is mastered differently and how they do little tweaks here and then a few adjustments there.
The Hex Hector Radio Mix of I Turn To You is definitely a different version noticeable right out of the gate. The og version has the acidy sounds much lower in pitch whereas in this version are much higher pitched and way more pronounced. Also at the conclusion of each chorus the lyrics of "I Turn To You" has the piano keys from the album version layered in more dominately. Not bad just different and for someone owns MANY copies of all vinyl versions of all mixes of the song and who has listened to this song thousands of times (I'm not kidding) since 2000 in many different headphones, on different mixers, etc..sounds quite noticeably different..really hit me in my ears unexpectedly.
Some of the instrumentation throughout is also quite suppressed which I guess is somewhat dissapointing as I was really looking forward to hearing an unchanged mix of this but mastered differently using modern technology.

I wouldn't pay anymore than 40 bucks (before shipping) on this for time being. Either wait for a seller to list it or seek out from one of the stores that's already selling online off of discogs.

A seriously great pressing of a great album. After a cleaning, it sounds so clear and deep. Get this while you can! -
This is one of my childhood albums, and this album was the start of Mel. C proving she was the strongest of the Spices. So what a joy it is to get this pressing, it’s been given a really great bit of justice here. There’s a lot around. Don’t pay the scalpers, it was £35. -
Got my copy today $35.99 suggested retail price, not this I'm gonna buy and automatically charge twice the amount because I didn't want it in the first place. A couple store in my town still have copies.
