Edited 3 months agoThis is the top of the ambient genre, for sure. For those who like fusing ambient drones with eastern influences (see zthrockm review below, its brilliant). A classic. Deep asian atmospheres, combined with underwater or space elements. Some chill beats here and there too, but still, its ambient journey. To the Sun, and back. Enjoy the ride. Its timeless.

Edited 19 years agoAdham Shaikh’s “Journey to the Sun” is a fantastic example of how amazing the fusion of Western electronica and Eastern aesthetics can be when it’s done right. Too many electronic musicians have attempted to capture the Eastern ‘mysticism’ or ‘spiritualism’ in hard-pounding 4/4 trance only to fail miserably and produce nothing but ethno-garbage. “Journey to the Sun” is not one of these embarrassingly cheesy failures.
Apparently inspired by a trip through India & to the Himalayas Shaikh himself went on (during which he sourced the samples used in this recording), this CD lives up to its name. Droning Indian sitars, hauntingly melodic bansuri & venu flutes, religious chanting, ethnic percussion (as well as beatscapes), are all layered with excellent synthwork & fx processing. The result is compelling and demands a loud headphone session. Highly recommended!
