Some of the bands best songs on this album, the beautiful ‘chalkhills..’ is a stop you in your tracks song, ‘mayor of simpleton’ has one of the best bass lines you’ll ever hear in a song (bar ‘enchanted’ by prefab) a great album.

Edited 4 years agoI have searched and searched online for an answer to this question with no luck, so I am posting it to Discogs in the hope that someone can elucidate: There are clearly TWO different versions of the opening track "Garden of Earthly Delights". One version has the cool sound effects building directly into the song (Andy Partridge sings the first word, "Kid"). The other version has the cool sound effects building, THEN A SHORT PAUSE, and then the song begins.
The CD versions I have do not have the pause. The cassette does. The 3 mini-disc version does. And - here's a head scratcher for you - the Blu-Ray version has an "original mix" that does not have the pause, and a new 5.1 mix that DOES have the pause!
Does anyone know what this is about? Why the two different versions? Any help in understanding this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
