Bought this when it came out and haven't played it much--I usually reach for the 70s vinyl. It doesn't sound objectively bad to me: sure, the bass is a little cranked, and it might be a little hard on the ears like a lot of recent CD releases. But they crammed so much into all these tracks that I think it was always a bit fatiguing. Anyway, it's sounding better to me than expected after a few years.

I grabbed this when it first came out pas the 5 CD set thinking it was just too much. It's a huge improvement over the 30th Anniversary Edition that George remixed and ruined, but a little dark which I can relate to with George's ing.But I have to say that I went right back out and bought the 5 CD version which I love.

I have a question if I may.
On the 50th anniversary edition of the 3 cd set I have disc 1 simply ready out as ATMP while disc 2 reads "30th Anniversary". And yes, disc 3 reads...50th anniversary edition. What gives ???
Thanks in advance. -
This CD version is shameful. The remix is so bass loaded, it renders it dark as can be. All sense of space is gone and clarity is basically non existent. I have the original UK vinyl and I got taken for thinking they could improve on this masterpiece for the 50th anniversary. Shame on me for swallowing this marketing ploy. Beware, this CD is bad, maybe the 50th vinyl is better but I won't go into that rabbit hole.
