I'd love to say this is an amazing album, and the majority of it is. There are just a few moments around W.I.K-Forcasa 1 which for some reason I find a bit annoying. Alot of people seem to like Forcasa 1, but not me. It sounds too much like a whole lot of the rest of electronica around that time for me to like it or something like that. Luckily, everything else is great. When he starts expreimenting more around Pendulus and Amnion things get really interesting; part of the enjoyment is simply to listen to the layers moving over one another. Whoblo is one of my favourite tracks of all time. It's beautiful in its simplicity, and very emotionally strong.

I the first time I heard this album. Back in 1999 I was recommended this album by a friend, who lent me his copy so I could hear it. It sat for almost a week next to my bed, and was always on my "to play" list but I never got round to it. Anyway, one morning I woke up in the early hours and decided to give it a listen. In no small way, it completely changed everything, and I was awestruck with just how beautiful it was. What really struck me was the consistancy in production quality, from the terrific opener that is "Glink", the superb melodies of the "Forcassa" trilogy, right up to the staggering beautiful "Aguila" . Needless to say, I purchased my own copy the next day. Of course, there are many other similarly essential albums out there, but this one will always hold a special place in my heart. Thank you Bolaman!

Bola first atracted my attention cause I read somewhere he is a mixture between Boards of Cananda and Autechre. It is true Bola has some elements of both mentioned artists but this record has something really unique. There are layers... and layers... and layers of sound, sometimes intriguing and dark, sometimes melancholyc. IMHO the highlights of SOUP are, "Forcasa 1" and "Aguilla", the first being a nice track filled with crispy beats and soft melodies, and the second is a VERY beautiful sad track with choirs and even a short solo. This album gives you an extraterrestrial warm feel. Definitively an IDM classic.
