Holy crap this edition is just full of color and songs like boyz, bird flu, 20 Dollar really shine. It’s literally like being in a club, the bass punches so hard and there is no surface noise or pops
-
Edited one year agoBoyz is just one of the bounciest gotta-dance-when-it-comes-on songs of the past few decades. Impressed with this pressings. Sounds great. Wonderful low-end throughout. Colored vinyl makes sense here (reflecting the cover design). Only beef is a seemingly common habit of VMP of releasing 2xLP versions without putting the effort into making a proper gatefold jacket. That said, the jacket it comes with looks stunning.

Only issue with my copy is "Hussel" is a little crunchy in the first half of the song. Not worth getting upset over, may be able to fix with a thorough cleaning. Other than that, clean throughout. My discs have a little warp but that's par for the course these days so again, not a big deal. The packaging is beautiful.

Stunning packaging, from the sleeve to the neon green and purple vinyls. The cherry on the cake would have been having "Big Branch" on vinyl edition.
-
Worth lifting the platter and flipping the belt to 45 for. Great production. The colors are not really my style here, especially straight up opaque, which gives the whole thing more of a early 90s than 2007 presentation, but the fit with VMP’s overall packaging.

this sounds AMAZING, packaging is great and there is barely any surface noise! They did this album justice, rlly hope they do AIM in the future

Surprisingly a very good sounding record, considering it was pressed at GZ. I do have some slight surface noise on a few tracks. It’s been washed in a Kirmuss and static removed with a Destat 3. I feel confident that it comes down to the quality of the actual vinyl. Nevertheless overall this is a well done album. Glad they cut it at 45rpm. I wish more vinyl was cut at that speed.

Edited 3 years agoI will never understand the appeal of this album. Coming from a huge electronic and hip-hop fan, this is just annoying. It's Major Lazer production (and I would argue weak for even their low standards) with the most obnoxious vocals imaginable put on top. The amount of praise heaped onto Maya as an artist blows my mind considering that the only thing she contributes here are vocal snippets that are then processed and chopped into oblivion by someone else. Toss in the fact that multiple choruses and vocals lines are "borrowed" from other well known artists, and this has to be some of the laziest "songwriting" that I am aware of. Her ethnic background and the different world music genre influences that are used on this project (in the production... which she didn't do...) seems to be the main selling point. It's panned as derivative and culture-vulturing when Major Lazer does it on their own (which I agree with), so why is the exact same production by the exact same guys praised so highly here? It's a great sounding pressing, and that's the only good thing I have to say about this album.

Edited 3 years agoFlat as a pancake. Every second sounds incredible with almost no noise. Packaging is flawless. Music is the best way you can listen to this record, obviously. A bit of noise in between tracks but nothing that would genuinely bother anyone. 45 RPM, half-speed-mastered, color, packaging, obi, everything - truly the definitive experience you can get with any hip hop album on vinyl.
There are a bunch of skips on "Come Around" though.
