it is a great record, but can be hard to get into. several reasons for this: if you come from indian classical this is clean-cut and hyper-active. this is not raga-s, although zakir hussain, the son of great tabla player alla rahka plays here. there is no vinyl version. the sound production is done in its own new york time (2000).

It's Laswell's masterpiece, with cool collabs and excellent tabla variations by Zakir Hussain. 10/10

Every track sounds far to familiar! The tabla, even though I love the sound of a tabla, is constantly playing fast and rapid in sort of drum n bass manner that makes you wish for a pace and tempo change. This is the same for the breakbeats and dub formula which on every track, except for maybe three tracks, you start to feel as if your listening to a slightly altered track with a very familiar pattern formula and direction from the track before it! There are some interesting electronics going on, but unfortunately the tabla, bass, breakbeat keep coming and burying the some good ideas that would have been a pleasure to listen too rather then overly forceful and dependent use of tabla and breaks. 6/10

This is definitely a classic, a real ground breaker. One look at the lineup consisting of precussion legends and todays top sonic manipulators, you know this is guaranteed to be an interesting listen.

First off I must say those who thought this had something to do with Indian Classical music will be dissapointed. TBS is an ensemble of top artists who ed to push the boundries to electronic music today. And what an amazing job they do! Straight up, powerful, precussion with tribal beats and Laswell's amazing bass and production. Not to leave out the others, Karsh Kale does some fantastic programming on Palmistry, Talvin singh is trippy on the manipulations. All in all I recommend this to all open-minded listeners who like a bit of tribal, dub, and massive Laswell basslines.
