A gem of a concert from a band that doesn't tend to have a ton of variety in their live recordings. It's a shame that PJ never really leaned into any semblance of the jam band aspect considering the fact that they've enthusiastically released the majority of their live shows since 2000. There's been many standouts over the years of course, and listening to a show from 1992 is different from a 2024 concert, but the missed potential is there when considering the entire body of live music this band has put out.
That being said, Benaroya is a primarily acoustic set that focuses more on deep cuts, covers, and interesting renditions of more popular tracks. It's exactly the kind of variety that is normally lacking from the main body of PJ live releases and it's utterly fantastic. The recording is top notch, the track selection is solid, and it's a joy to listen to from beginning to end. This was a great era for the band live and it hits the spot.
