Side 1 of the LP appears on the Zager & Evans album "The Early Writings of Zager & Evans (And Others) - J.K. & Co. was an American psychedelic rock group from Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S.A. led by Jay Kaye who was only 15 when he assembled the band - As a band J.K. & Co. didn't really exist until after the album was completed & Kaye formed a group to play the material live that included his cousin John Kaye on bass.

Edited 4 years agoA marvelous album and long-time favorite of myself and many! "Fly" is one of those tracks that fully epitomizes genuine '60s psychedelia, as confirmed by numerous adventurers since its release in 1968. Why "Fly" wasn't put on a single to promote the group, while the 0:32 intro "Break Of Dawn" was, is one of the genre's great mysteries. The only throw-away tracks here are "Speed"/"Crystal Ball," which are jammy and ruin a bit the atmosphere of the recording. The fact that this record was created by Jay Kaye (R.I.P.) as a teenager adds immensely to its legend, as the tracks are surprisingly lyrical and mature. Fans of Revolver/Pepper-era Beatles or the Zombies' "Odessey" will love this soft psych rock classic.
The original US pressings sound good, though ittedly this will never be a high-fidelity recording. The Canadian pressings, while much more rare, are a very quiet pressing and sound phenomenal. Side 1 of this album somehow appeared on a Zager/Evans compilation LP in 1969 ("The Early Writings"), but the originals sound better. The best digital reissue is the one on Sundazed/BeatRocket from 2001, which uses the master tapes for side 1 and a good vinyl dub for side 2. The BeatRocket LP version, which is likely using the same digital source, also sounds good and is an acceptable substitute for an original. The Japanese CD from 2006 has suffered from heavy noise reduction and should be avoided.
